R.I.P.

Our dog, Sydney, died today. Well, she's not really "our" dog...but a stray dog that is local to my apartment building. I've seen her everyday for the past two years and now she's gone!

I was walking home and on the corner before you turn to go to our building a group of people were standing around watching one man dig a hole in the grass. Then I noticed that our dog, Sydney, was lying, wrapped up in a table cloth, next to the hole! I knew that it had to be Sydney because she hadn’t been looking very good recently. She had trouble barking and walking and has had this huge laceration on her side. I didn’t think she was going to make it much longer.

Anyway, what do you think I did next? I got my camera out and started to take pictures. And then one woman yelled at me, “Where are you from?!?!” and I said, “ I live here.” And she yelled, “Do you know this dog?!?!” And I said, “I saw this dog everyday!” She seemed satisfied so I got closer and asked some of the other neighbors what happened.

I couldn’t tell for sure, but either Sydney was hit by an ambulance, or she was hit by a random car and then later the ambulance came. Either way, she was hit by some sort of vehicle and then the ambulance told them there was nothing that could be done. She was going to die. The weird thing was, that I think Sydney was still alive... she just couldn’t move... and I think they were going to bury her alive. I didn’t stick around though. Who knows how long it would have taken to dig the hole with the crappy shovel the man was using.

Well, yes, life is still weird here in Russia.
